Bankura · Writer and scholar

Satya Kinkar Sahana was a Bankura writer and scholar whose interests ranged across poetry, literature, philosophy and religion. Dutta discusses his Sakuntala Rahasya and Hindu Dharma among the community’s literary contributions.[1]

The Bengali catalogue of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira’s library lists Kalika, Malika and Juthika under his name and the title “Bidyabinod,” preserving a record of his poetry and other writing.[2]

His public activities extended beyond literature. Bankura Municipality’s history names him among the citizens who formed a famine-relief committee at Edward Memorial Hall on 18 January 1919.[3] As a member of the Bengal Legislative Council, he questioned the government about support for Bankura Medical School on 22 January 1934.[4]

Dutta includes Sahana of Bankura in his account of Ugra Kshatriya intellectual life, p. 314.[1]
